Black Elderberry

Black elderberry berries have an intense and deep aroma. The ripe berries have the perfect balance of sweetness and light tartness. The sweet notes are reminiscent of red grapes, blueberries or blackberries, while the tartness evokes slightly sour flavours such as pomegranate molasses or cranberry, and this special fruit offers a warm and earthy aroma with undertones of cinnamon or vanilla, while leaving a feeling of freshness on the palate. Black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is a plant often used in traditional medicine, especially against infections such as colds and flu. Some of its properties known to support the immune system are as follows:

1. Rich in Antioxidants

Black Elderberry contains powerful antioxidants (1, 2). These compounds reduce cell damage by fighting free radicals and support the healthy functioning of the immune system. These compounds in black elderberry, which also contain vitamin C and flavonoids (such as quercetin), play an important role in fighting infections.

2. Antiviral

Laboratory studies and clinical trials have shown that it has an inhibitory effect on the influenza (flu) virus. For example, a 2004 study (3) found that it reduced flu symptoms 2-4 days earlier. It may have an antiviral effect by preventing viruses from entering cells or slowing their proliferation (4).

3. Anti-inflammatory Properties

It provides balanced immune system function by suppressing excessive inflammation during infection. This property is particularly useful in respiratory infections (5).

4. Respiratory Health

It can relieve symptoms such as cough and congestion by relaxing the bronchial muscles. A 2016 meta-analysis (6) showed that black elderberry supplements reduced symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.

In honey, which is a source of protein, proline has a very important place, which shows the purity and quality of honey among the 20 amino acids that make up protein.
